January 28th is Data Privacy Day and we have a few ideas of how you can celebrate.
#1 Change your passswords
We all know it’s a good idea to change our passwords from time to time to help keep your accounts safe. Data Privacy Day is this week, and that makes this a great way to observe the day. Update your passwords and encourage your friends and colleagues to do the same.
#2 Update Privacy Settings
Personal information is very valuable. Check your privacy setting in the devices and apps you use and make sure you aren’t sharing more than you want to. If your company collects personal information, make sure that it is protected from data breaches and that it is being used responsibly.
#3 Educate Yourself
Data Privacy is a growing field of concern for individuals and for corporations. You should know what laws are in force in your area. Most states in the U.S. have laws that deal with protecting private data, in addition to national and international laws like HIPAA and GDPR. Read up on the resources discussing these laws and others here.
#4 What’s Your End-of-Use Protocol
When a device reaches its End-of-Use how do you deal with it? This is one of the most overlooked areas of data privacy. Before you sell, donate, or dispose of a computer make sure your data has been securely removed. WipeDrive’s Enterprise and consumer tools can help give you the peace of mind that private data is really gone. Find out more here.
#5 Relax With a Podcast
Congratulations you made it through the week. Now it’s time to kick back and relax with a podcast or two. And we have a few to recommend. Check out our podcast page for a few of our favorites, you’ve earned it.
